Laminar Medica’s manufacturing and production department at both sites, Tring, UK and Vodnany, Czech Republic operate in a lean manufacturing environment. The introduction of lean manufacturing allows Laminar to keep the cost out of the cold chain for their customers by removing waste and non value adding processes.
Some of the concepts introduced so far are:
- Reduction in average lead times
- Waste audits
- 5 S audit (including Double Blind Audits)
- Visual Management
A lean process needs a lean thinking team, and with this in mind all of Laminar’s manufacturing staff have been trained in the principles. Lean manufacturing, however, is all about continuous improvement and we are always searching for ways to reduce costs, improve quality and increase productivity for the benefit of our customers.
Total Defect Management is a lean principle and is an example of a current project between the manufacturing department and quality department at Laminar. The objective being, to identify and reduce re occurring problems in specific areas of the company. This is achieved by targeting issues in order of priority gained from data collection at "point of use".
